Gerald Ford, RIP

He wasn't my kind of Republican, but I do like this quote:

A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.

I never really understood that. Basically it is an alarmist position saying the government that would give you everything would also turn on a dime and take it all away. Can someone explain why the Scandinavians do not seem to feel that way and why it does not seem to be a problem? Should the quote read: A government big enough to give everything to people is likely to take from the privileged to do so? In other words, is it a quote the right likes to toss around and pass off as fear of government when it is really fear of loosing privilege and status?

If Ford's "not your kind of Republican", what kind of Republican are you?

He epitomizes what a true Republican is all about. Honesty, decency, integrity. A far cry from the polarizing morons who inhabit the GOP today. The GOP would be the majority party today, if they embraced moderates. As long as the Right Wing fringe is in charge, the GOP will be the party of the past and will be in the minority for decades.

I'd take Ford over ANY of the candidates out there today.
