The Township attorney is recommending against it.
In a June 17 memo to the board, Porter expressed “serious reservations” about whether the township has the authority to enact such an ordinance under the Michigan Constitution and state statute, based on his research into state constitution and statute, the Charter Township Act, the Civil Rights Commission, the Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, Michigan Attorney General opinions and more.
