Cooney for Congress?

The news is reporting that Kalamazoo City Commissioner Don Cooney will run for Congress against Fred Upton. Cooney has a reputation as very liberal. He has close ties to the Green Party. He has been an outspoken critic of the Iraq war.

I wonder what his position on light bulb choice is?

There don't seem to be any news articles online at this time.

Am I dreaming, this is great! Don Cooney is a sensational teacher who has touched many students lives. (In the tradition of Paul Wellstone)He has been a very effective councilman. I twill be like when VT had Bernie Sanders as a Congressman he was great then they put him in the Senate. I love it. Upton is just a ride along for Bush anyway. Think of all the things the last congress gave us he was right with them. WE need a leader not the follower we have had.

I am another of Dr. Cooney's past students. I live in Texas now and I've just finished my masters degree. However, I am thrilled about this campaign and I will always remember Dr. Cooney for his genuine devotion to social justice and his concern for each and every student at Western Michigan University.

I remember Dr. Cooney, a 70 year old man, bounding around campus like a 20 year old. He was always going somewhere to help someone - to address some need. Sure, Dr. Cooney is a liberal, I don't think that's a secret. However, his positions on the war, and many other domains of foreign and domestic concern, are not unlike the majority of Americans.

Partisan politics aside, Dr. Cooney is the most decent human being I have ever met. I realize that sounds hyperbolic, but I'm completly serious. Dr. Cooney is honest, passionate, energetic and, of course, incredibly intelligent. I will always aspire to be more like him. If you've ever had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Cooney, you'd understand what I was talking about. He is charismatic, benevolent and a wondeful leader.

I think, republican or democrat, you should take the opportunity to introduce yourself to Dr. Cooney. I don't think anyone who actually knows Dr. Cooney could possibly dislike him or question his motives. He is a public servant, an educator and a model human being.

Don Cooney is an insightful leader whose candidacy symbolizes a triumph of substance over mediocrity. He is not a policy wonk. His vision cuts through the hype of conventional newsspeak. Don is a self made success story unlike Fred Upton who used old family ties and many questionable alliances that did and still do threaten working people everywhere especially Michigan. Don will tell the truth about Harbor Shores, the 500M dollar legacy Fred Upton gives to his hometown constituency St. Joseph. Get it?
