The Township attorney is recommending against it.
In a June 17 memo to the board, Porter expressed “serious reservations” about whether the township has the authority to enact such an ordinance under the Michigan Constitution and state statute, based on his research into state constitution and statute, the Charter Township Act, the Civil Rights Commission, the Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, Michigan Attorney General opinions and more.

Terri Land Runs for Senate

Former Michigan Secretary of State and current Michigan Republican National Committeewoman Terri Lynn Land is running for Senate.

Land launches run for Levin's Senate seat

Land was elected SOS in 2002 with 55% and reelected in 2006 with 56%.  She has had success winning statewide elections, though neither were against top opponents.

She is generally considered a mainstream conservative.  However, as SOS she did not have to take positions on many specific issues, so there is much that is yet to be known about her views.

No other Republicans have entered the race, though a few are still considering it.  Congressman Gary Peters is expected to be the democrat nominee.
